TECHNOLOGIES FOR LEARNING

TECHNOLOGIES FOR LEARNING

Capacity to effectively use technology is built to enhance learning and teaching, create digital learning environments that improves access to high quality learning in cost-effective ways and provide provides new insights uses of education technology. (http://ltd.edc.org/technology-learning)

Technology can be used in many ways, one of which is for learning. Using technology to learn is becoming more popular in learning environment recently. It helps teachers to enhance their teaching and deliver beyond traditional textbook based learning. It also engages students with practical ways of learning.
Collaboration on the moodle help to put together the technologies below and how each is used for learning.

Technology
How it can be used for learning
Virtual Reality
It is a learning environment that actively engage users with the surrounding. It can be used for various explorations like going into space. When 3D glass is used to watch a movie, which makes it look like it is happening where the viewer is; is a good example.
It can also be used to view how being in the space look like rather than looking at the image on the screen.
Mobile or portable device (Tablet computing)
It encourages continuous access to learning support. This can be in form of video or audio. Video learning helps the learner to learn better by seeing what is happening and how it is done.
It can also be in form of multimedia elements like images, graphs or animations.
3D Printing (Augmented Reality)
3D model of an object can be placed in the real world and explore by using device. Devices can be used to zoom in the object to see more details. It helps in simplifying complex theories. It can also be used to acquire knowledge about new technologies by exploring and turning ideas into 3D model.
Cloud Computing
It is a computing model based on network (Internet) which ensure that users can simply use the computing resources on demand. It is a viable option for data storage and visualisation.
MOOCs
It is a Massive Open Online Course which aim at unlimited participation and open access through the web. It is an extension of edX (edX offers free or affordable courses).
It encourages learning at your convenience environment and at your own pace.
Wearable Technology
These are smart devices that can be worn on the body as implants or accessories. It can be used to track body mass index (BMI), weight loss, body fat, listening device like earpiece, 3D glasses.
Artificial Intelligence
It is a personalised platform with individualised instruction to support the individual learning style.
It helps learners express and externalise their thinking, visualise and test components of their theories and make materials more interesting.
